New Dolphin deployed to the Pod — monitoring in progress (20 years, still running)
Description
Asset (Joe Payne) deployed March 20, 2006 after discovering job posting via VIATEC — a name a call centre co-worker had mysteriously mentioned. Previous role: call centre operator. Upgraded immediately upon hire.

Early tasks included editing HTML in Notepad and onsite server installations. Asset adapted without complaint. Initial diagnostics: promising.

SYSTEM /// MARCH 20, 2006 @ 09:00
Ticket #000001 created. New Dolphin provisioned. Onboarding initiated. Welcome to the Pod.
HELPDESK ADMIN /// MARCH 2006
Joe set up with workstation, email, and access credentials. Day one: edited HTML in Notepad, then went onsite for a server install. Completely unrelated tasks. Asset did not raise a ticket about either. Early signs: very promising.
SYSTEM ALERT /// CIRCA 2008
WARNING: Asset completed on-premises Exchange migration — 70+ mailboxes — over a single weekend. Also reconfigured six lawyers' BlackBerry devices (one in Palm Springs). Built a terminal server from scratch. Monday morning: showed up on time. Flagging as anomalous resilience. Not a bug.
HELPDESK ADMIN /// THE 2010s
Natural upgrade path confirmed: Onsite Technician → vCIO Consulting → Technology Success Director. Asset now leads the Professional Services team with 8 Dolphins reporting directly. Also joined the LMA team. Works with vCIOs to scope and deliver the right projects. Describes it as a dream job. Still shows up every day.
FIELD NOTE /// JANUARY 2026
Asset successfully completed a trip to Mexico. First major international recharge in recent memory. Returned relaxed, well-rested, and well-deserved. Recommend recurring maintenance window annually.
HELPDESK ADMIN /// EARLY 2026
Brief service disruption: soccer injury sidelined asset from left back duties for a period. Full recovery confirmed. Back on the pitch a few weeks ago. The Pod exhaled. The boys are still growing. The barre chords remain a work in progress.
✓ PROPOSED RESOLUTION
After 20 years of investigation, the team has concluded there is no fix for Joe Payne. He is not a bug. He is core infrastructure.

Arrived from Nelson in 2003. Found Smart Dolphins through VIATEC in 2006. Has since migrated more Exchange servers than most people have had hot dinners. Built a career, a family, a team of 8, and a seat at the LMA table. Got injured. Recovered. Went to Mexico. Came back better.

Known bugs: Cannot stop talking about soccer. Agonizes over John Lennon's barre chords. West Coast Trail still on the list.

Resolution status: DO NOT RESOLVE. DO NOT REASSIGN. DO NOT CLOSE.
Recommended action: Celebrate loudly. Feed him tapas. Make him play simulator golf.
